Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Life Console service at life-console.dev ("the service", "we") collects, why, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. Life Console is a personal planning app run by an individual developer. It isn't a company, and it has no advertising or data business. If you use Life Console on a server run by someone else (it can be self-hosted), that server's operator is responsible for your data, and their policy applies instead.
In short: we store what you put in your planner so it can sync between your devices, plus the minimum needed to sign you in and send the notifications you ask for. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you. We count visits to the homepage and which app screens are opened with our own cookieless analytics, and you can turn that off for the app in Settings. We never see or store a password: you sign in with Google. You can export or delete everything at any time.
1. What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| From your Google account, when you sign in: your email address, your name and Google's account ID for you | To create your account, sign you in and recognise you next time. We don't get your Google password, contacts or any other Google data. |
| Your planner: todos, schedules, deadlines, strategic plans, notes, and anything you log, such as sleep, caffeine, routines and sign-offs, plus your settings (including your timezone) | This is the service: storing your planner and keeping it in sync across your devices. Wellbeing entries such as sleep and caffeine are optional, and only there if you add them. |
| Sign-in sessions: a random session token (we store only a one-way hash of it), your browser's user-agent string, and when it was created and last used | To keep you signed in and let you sign out everywhere |
| Notification devices, if you turn notifications on: the push address your browser gives us, its keys, the device name you choose and the user-agent string | To send the reminders you asked for |
| Issue reports, if you send one (the bug button or key I): your text, the screen you were on, and technical details (device type, installed or browser, window size, theme, app version, user-agent string) | To fix problems and improve the app |
| Usage statistics: on the public homepage, the page address and the referring site; in the app, which screen you open (such as "Plan week", never dates, IDs or anything in your planner). With each: the browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and approximate location (country, region and city). We run Umami on our own server for this. It sets no cookies and doesn't store your IP address: it derives the approximate location from it, and counts unique visitors with a one-way hash whose key changes regularly, so the statistics aren't tied to who you are and can't follow you to other sites | To see how many people visit and where they come from, and which parts of the app are used, so we can improve them. In the app you can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy (for all your devices); it applies from then on. |
| Technical data: your IP address and request details, as they pass through our network provider and server | To deliver the site and protect it (for example rate limits against password-guessing and abuse). We don't keep a log of your activity. |
We don't collect payment details, location or contacts, and we don't use the camera or microphone.
2. Stored on your device
The app keeps a copy of your planner and your display preferences in your browser's local storage, so it works offline and loads instantly. Signing out removes the planner copy from that browser. We set one essential cookie, lc_session, to keep you signed in, and a second cookie that lasts at most 10 minutes during Google sign-in. There are no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. Our network provider, Cloudflare, may set a strictly necessary security cookie.
3. Who else is involved
We don't sell or rent your data, or share it for marketing. A few providers are needed to run the service:
- Cloudflare carries all traffic to the site (HTTPS and protection against attacks), so it handles your IP address and the requests your browser makes.
- Google handles sign-in, which is covered by Google's own privacy policy. The app also loads its fonts and icons from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when those files load.
- Push services deliver notifications if you turn them on: Google for Chrome and Android, Apple for Safari and iOS, Mozilla for Firefox. Notification contents are end-to-end encrypted to your device (the Web Push standard), so the push service sees only delivery details.
We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the service or its users from serious harm.
Your data is stored on a server we operate. It may be in a different country from where you live. By using the service you understand your data will be processed there.
4. How long we keep it
- Your account and planner: until you delete your account.
- Planner snapshots (automatic copies so we can recover from mistakes or bugs): up to the 200 most recent per account, deleted with your account.
- Database backups: daily backups are kept for 14 days, and backups taken before an update for 28 days. After you delete your account, your data is gone from the live database straight away and from backups once they expire.
- Sessions: until you sign out, or 90 days after their last use.
- Notification devices: until you turn notifications off, sign out on that device, the push service reports the device gone, or you delete your account.
- Issue reports: kept to improve the app. When you delete your account they stay, but they're no longer linked to you. If you want a report's text removed, ask us.
5. Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. We don't store passwords, session tokens are stored only as hashes, and the database isn't reachable from the internet. Your planner is not end-to-end encrypted: it's stored on our server so it can sync. We look at account data only when we need to: to keep the service running, to fix a problem, to answer you, or when the law requires it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we'll tell you as the law requires.
6. Your choices and rights
- Export: Settings → Data → Export JSON downloads your whole planner.
- Delete: Settings → Account → Delete account removes your account, planner, snapshots and notification devices.
- Notifications: turn them off per device in Settings, or in your phone's settings.
- Everything else: email us to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to object to or restrict how we use it.
If you're in the EEA, the UK or another region with similar laws, you have these rights by law. The legal bases we rely on are: providing the service you asked for (your account and planner), our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and improving it (technical data and issue reports), and your consent (notifications, and any wellbeing data you choose to enter, which you can delete at any time). You can also complain to your local data-protection authority.
7. Children
The service isn't meant for children under 16, and they shouldn't use it. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
